Call regarding the new fees before you plan to go! I've been flying in and out of Modern for the past 5 months weekly and flew up with a friend on 12/31/25 and was told they would be implementing a drastic increase in fees... I used this FBO to commute to and from work. Overnight parking for a piston single is now $137/night! I guess I will be driving from here on out, it's quite disappointing. I don't think they even waive a night or the facility fee anymore either with 15 gallons of avgas.

I was enroute to Charlotte and had a buddy tip me off that Modern Aviation raised their fees. I used to pay $25 for an overnight with a very high fuel price at Modern since they took over from Wilson Air. It is now $149 per night for a small piston air plane and a $15 landing fee plus they have very high fuel prices. This used to be my go to location when I would come to my house on Lake Norman. They have lost my business and I will make sure they lose everybody else's business I can talk to.

Great FBO outside of the pilots lounge. Come on, modern facility, can we not replace recliners that date back to when the building was built? Two out of all eight chairs might work if you hold your mouth right and smash the button enough. Good luck.

Most of the wonderful staff from the excellent Wilson stayed on with Modern. Fuel prices increased a bit from Wilson, with the same required fuel to waive fees staying roughly the same, ramp fees stayed roughly the same as well. Only issue we experienced was Modern closing the pilots lounge for the TSA for a DCA flight for several hours while at the same time the lobby was crowded and loud. Hopefully they find a better system for accommodating TSA without inconveniencing the flight crews.
